What is the Barnabas camp?

The Barnabas camp is organised by the Eastern European Mission Hungary. We are an international Christian charity, which carries out its activities on an interdenominational basis. Most of our missionaries live and serve in Hungarian-speaking areas beyond the Hungarian borders, in the Transcarpathian (Ukraine), in Transylvania (Romania), in Seklerland (Romania) and Vojvodina (Serbia), but our activities and vision range as far as Kosovo and Albania. Our main aim is to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ but our additional aims are to do charity and cultural activities as well.

We started organising Barnabas camps because we would like to offer an opportunity to every young person to take part in mission activities in obedience to God’s command. From the experiences of previous years we can say that these mission trips are an extremely blessed and successful time for the youth: they return home with a renewed passion for Christ, for their local church and international mission.

He will not only serve with worship music but also with a teaching at this year’s Barnabas Camp.

Mike Mike Payne

His ministry has also led him to countries such as Afghanistan and Syria. He is married and father of two sons.

Bereznai Áron Bereznai
Aron works as a translator but feels called to be a teacher. He mainly serves in churches throughout Hungary. He regards as main aim of his ministry to prepare the church in Hungary for standing firm in the last days. He believes that at this time there should be a special focus on mission work. Aron is married and father to ten children.

How exactly does Barnabas work?

The primary purpose of this programme is that after a few days of preparation the participants would form teams and be sent out to different mission fields. They will be sharing the Good News to everyone who would listen. A Barnabas camp follows the following schedule:

  • The first three days are the training conference. This will take place in the Mission Centre of the Eastern European Mission in Inarcs, Hungary (in close proximity to Budapest). There will be group discussions, seminars and services during the conference. These will help the participants to get a view of their role during the mission trip and also to gain spiritual renewal, which is essential for a successful mission.
  • On the fourth day the groups will leave for the mission destinations. They will spend one week there and minister under the supervision of a local missionary of the Eastern European Mission. This ministry will be manifold and demands much creativity: it includes street evangelism and church services, family visits and children’s work, and many more. It can in some cases even include physical work for the benefit of the local community.

What can be expected at Barnabas this year?

Barnabas 2011 promises to be exciting. It will be held between the 22nd and 31st of July. Each evening during the training conference there will be an extended time of worship followed by a teaching from a different (Hungarian but also international) speaker each night (all announcements and teaching, etc. will be translated into English and/or German, as necessary).

Where can I travel to share the Good News?

Barnabas 2011 offers a great variety of possibilities for you. We will send out groups to Transylvania and Seklerland (Romania), Vojvodina (North-Serbia) and several locations in Hungary (Pecs, Beret and Petofiszallas).

Who can apply? How can I apply?

The Barnabas camp would like to mobilise young Christians to offer them an opportunity for mission activities. Anyone from the age of 17 can apply for the camp. For those travelling to Serbia, a passport will be necessary. You can apply by downloading, completing and returning to application form to us by email.

How much does it cost?

It has been in important issue for us each year to keep the price of the camp as low as possible for the participants. The registration fee this year is 200 EUR and includes accommodation and full board (three times a day) for ten days, and travel cost from the conference venue to the mission field and back (i.e. NOT the travel to and from Inarcs).
